come in various colours like bright
red, magenta, white, lavender, and
pink, many of them fringed with a
white line. But the ones to watch
out for, are the double-flowered
petunias. They are some of the rare
flowers that can be planted in early
January, but in 8-inch pots. However,
it’s crucial to save them from the
extreme cold by moving them into
protection. Mulching them with dry
leaves gives them warmth. Reduce
watering to allow the seedlings to
come up fast. By the third week,
move the pots into full sun. Pinch the
top of the plant to allow off-shoots
to emerge. When buds form, give a
liquid dose of potash at the root and
leaves, for more flowers.
